Cherry Blossom Festival GO Tournament — 4/29/17

  • Reposting for Gary Smith:

The Cherry Blossom Festival GO Tournament is delayed but not forgotten!

The National Go Center and NOVA are returning the Cherry Blossom Festival Go Tournament to Washington, DC. Okay, our tournament is going to be too late for the cherry blossoms this year, but it will be part of the Grand Opening of the National Go Center. There are going to be many exciting events all weekend. The Cherry Blossom Tournament will be the main event on Saturday. Please see for a complete run down on events (as they are developed). The National Go Center is located at 4652 Wisconsin Avenue above the Satay Club restaurant and a Papa Johns! We are just two blocks north of Tenleytown Metro (red line) and there is street and metered parking available (meters expect to be paid on Saturdays).

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Please pre-register before midnight April 27 for April 29 Tournament. You must check in by 9:00 am to be paired in the first round.

Registration and more details can be found at

This will be a 4-round single-day tournament with 45 minutes of main time (extra time, 5 - 30 second byo yomi periods). All levels are welcome, fun for everyone. AGA membership is required for all rated games.

Ribbon cutting on Friday, April 28 at 3:30 PM. Open House to follow into the evening. Stop by and play a game or two!

On Sunday, April 30 at Noon we will have Skype based children’s freindship match with Mexico. If you your student 12 and under would like to participate, please email me.

NOVA and NGC are merging operations. NOVA will continue to meet in Arlington on Monday nights as long as there is an interest in a meeting on the Virginia side of the Potomac. NOVA is no longer collecting NOVA dues and is encouraging everybody to financially support the Nation Go Center by becoming dues paying members of NGC. Your NGC dues gets you access to NGC, access to NOVA, and access to GWGC.
